12 Foods Which Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) liked And Their Benefits


1. Milk

It has been said that milk wipes away heat from the heart just as the finger wipes away sweat from the brow. It strengthens the back, increases brain function, augments intelligence, renews vision, and drives away forgetfulness.



Ibn Abbas (Allah be well pleased with him) reports that our Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) liked milk the most of all beverages.


Milk has been described for increasing stamina, removing dryness from the body. It helps digestion, is nutritious, improves texture of the skin, discharges waste of the body through urine (breaks down), improves brain and mind function, removes stresses and strains from the body. Milk, however, must be drunk in reasonable quantities, for too much milk could cause harm to some of the body function. Such as weakening the eyesight, weakening the joints of the body and also leads to fattening.


2. Honey


Honey is considered to be the best remedy for diarrhea when mixed in hot water. It is the food of foods, drink of drinks and medicine of medicines. It is used for creating appetite, strengthening the stomach, eliminating phlegm, as a meat preservative, hair conditioner, eye salve and mouthwash. It is extremely beneficial in the morning in warm water and is also a Sunnah to consume.

The Prophet Muhammed (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “You have two medicines: honey and the Quran.” (Ibn Maja)

3. Olive oil



Olive oil is an excellent treatment for skin and hair problems, it delays the signs of old age, and treats inflammation of the stomach.

The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “You have olive oil. Consume it and apply it on the body. For indeed, it is from a blessed tree.” (Tirmidhi)


4. Mushroom



The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) said that mushroom is a good cure for the eyes; it also serves as a form of birth control and arrests paralysis.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “Mushroom is a sort of manna which Allah sent to children of Israel. Its water is cure for the eyes. (Muslim, Ibn Majah)


Sayiduna Ali (Allah be pleased with him) reports our Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) as saying, “Mushroom is a good cure for the eyes.”

Anas Ibn Malik (Allah be well pleased with him) reports the Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) saying, “Jannah laughed and the mushroom came out and the earth laughed and its treasures came out.”

There are three kinds of mushrooms:

(1) Black mushroom – this is poisonous.

(2) Off-white and reddish mushroom (pinkish) – this is also not recommended.

(3) White mushroom – its extract is very good for the eyes. If applied for several days, it removes the whiteness from the eyes (blindness). Its extract, however, is not useful for bloodshot eyes. Its extract is especially good for eyesore as a result of heat, but it is not good for eyesore because of cold.

Dried and ground mushroom stops diarrhea and if a paste is made of mushroom with vinegar and placed over the navel of a person whose navel has shifted from a position resulting in severe pains, then the navel will come back into its place.

5. Grapes



The Prophet was very fond of grapes, it purifies the blood, restores vigor and vitality, strengthens the kidneys, and clears the bowels.


The Prophet Muhammed (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “Eat raisins, but spit out the stones, for there is illness, but in the flesh there is healing.” Narrated by Ibn Abbas and Suyuti.

6. Dates



The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) said that a house without dates has no provision, also it is to be given to newborns.


The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “Your women folk should eat dates, for whoever makes dates their food, will produce children with ease.” Narrated by As Suyuti.

The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “Whoever eats seven (‘ajwa) dates in the morning, will not be harmed by the likes of magic or poison for that dat.” (Bukhari)

7. Figs


Figs are a fruit from paradise and a cure for ailments.


The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) said, “If you are going to say that any fruit has come from the Garden, then truly you should mention fig, for it is indeed the fruit of Jannah.” Narrated by Abu Darda, Suyuti,

8. Barley



Barley is beneficial against fever in the form of a soup.

The companions of the Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) used to eat food prepared with barley and beet root after Friday prayers. (Tirmidhi)

9. Pomegranate


The Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) is reported to have said that pomegranate removes the effect of Satan and his whispers for 40 days.

Sayiduna Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said, “Eat pomegranate with its white membrane for it is a (therapeutic) dye for the stomach.” (Musnad of Ahmad)

It has also been narrated that Sayiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) would take a single seed from the fruit and eat it. When he was asked about that he said, “It has reached me that there isn’t a single pollenated pomegranate on the earth save that it contains a seed from those of Paradise so it may just be this one.” (Bayhaqi’s Shu’ab al-Iman)

It is therefore unsurprising that among the benefits associated with pomegranate are that it:

(1) purifies blood;

(2) invigorates and stimulates the body;

(3) cleans the stomach;

(4) removes obstructions in the digestive organs;

(5) stop diarrhea;

(6) improves digestion;

(7) strengthens the digestive organs;

(8) removes nervousness;

(9) clears the throat;

(10) clears the skin;

(11) neutralizes acid in the stomach.

10. WATER



The Prophet sallahu alaihi wasallam said the best drink in this world and the next is Water, when you are thirsty drink it by sips and not gulps, gulping produces sickness of the liver.


11. MELON



Melon contains 1000 blessings and 1000 mercies, The Prophet sallalhu alaihi wasallam said, "None of your women who are pregnant and eat of water melon will fail to produce off spring who is good in countenances and good in character.

It should be noted that no action or habit of our Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) was ever without reason or wisdom. It therefore follows that the more we emulate our Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him), the more we will benefit from that wisdom, drawing ever nearer to Allah, Most High.

12. Vinegar



Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) liked vinegar. Jabir narrated, "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, took me one day with him to his house. ... Naf'a said, "I have loved vinegar since I heard it from Jabir." [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i].

So praise belongs to Allah and may His best and highest blessings be lavished on our beloved Prophet (Allah’s peace be upon him) who came with knowledge and wisdom that dazzle the brightest minds. We pray that this information be beneficial to all.
