12 Muslim Goal-Setting Ideas

Sometimes it is very useful to set goals for ourselves. After setting what we want to achieve , we should set measures and targets for those goals. Setting goals makes us focus more on what is important in life. It makes us achieve more. It is important to always have a plan rather than doing things without a guide.

Here are 12 goal ideas for the year;

  1. Enroll in a course: Ranging from short courses, to diplomas, degrees and PHD.”To know that we know what we know, and to know that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge” Nicolaus Copernicus. Let us strive to seek for useful knowledge

  2. Save a life initiative: Go to a hospital, randomly select a critically sick patient. Someone that is on the verge of dying. Make that person a project and settle all his/her medical bills until they fully get well

  3. Clean water initiative: every year you can randomly pick 10 water wells that are blocked, fix and clear those wells to give way for flowing water.

  4. Debt relief initiative: Go to prison and pick 10-15 prisoners that are owing money to others. Settle their bills, ease their pain and they’ll be set free because of you . I’m Islam it is very rewarding to relieve someone a heavy burden

  5. Take care of Widows initiative: Taking care of widows is very rewarding in Islam. You can pick a couple of women who lost their husbands and provide support for them

  6. Improved relationship with Allah: Always make sure you check yourself as regards to your relationship with the creator. Remember the purpose of the creation itself. So what ever you want to accomplish in life should be after having an improved relationship with Allah

  7. Improved relationship with people: We also have to have a good relationship with our friends, neighbors, colleagues, parents, children etc Remember that if you do something wrong to a person, even if Allah forgives you , that person has to forgive you also. That is how important we should take the rights of others in our lives.

  8. A life without gossip: According to Ibn Taymiyyah“the worst part of generosity is gifting your good deeds to others due to backbiting,tale-carrying, swearing, lying and insulting” [Majmoo Al fatawaa 8]

  9. Enhanced family ties: Phone calls, texts, social visits, quarterly gifts, nice words, a helping hand to family members improves ties.

  10. Better disciplined children: As parents we have to remember that we are accountable and answerable for our children. Let us try our best and give them the best of education, advice, tarbiyya etc

  11. Improved charity: This is actually my favorite part. I love giving charities. There are different forms of charity. I love to focus on sadaqa Jariya. It gives me a sense of comfort, knowing that insha Allah I’ll have something to fall back on after my demise.

  12. Fasting white days: The rewards gained from fasting during the full moon are equivalent to that of fasting the whole month as reported by Abdullah Bin Amr Bin Al-As r.a. that the Messenger of Allah s.a.w. said:

صَوْمُ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ صَوْمُ الدَّهْرِ كُلِّهِ Observing fasting on three days of every month is equivalent to fasting the whole year”(Sahih Al-Bukhari)
